HISTORY
Lawrence was raised on a King Country farm, growing up, on and around machinery. His first experience with machinery, not appreciated by his frantic parents, was aged 5 years old on a Massey Ferguson 28. Diesel runs in the blood of this family. Lawrence’s Grandfather, Tom Holden, was heavily involved in Earthmoving, helping to build the flood protection stop banks in the Otorohanga township and also worked for Waikato Earthmovers involved in roading projects for the then Main Roads board.
The swampy willows flats on the family farm were broken in by Lawrence’s father Jim and his Grandfather, using an international BTD6, a Fordson Super Major Backhoe and the Massey Ferguson 28 tractor. Lawrence spent many happy days as a youngster, happily driving the tractor to help clear the land. After a number of farming years, Lawrence worked for a local Earthmoving Contractor driving diggers and trucks. He then worked alongside his brother Warren in a joint business doing hay and silage. When Lawrence met Pauline, she was promptly put to work helping out on machinery when needed.
In 2002 Lawrence and Pauline purchased the business of Bill Phillips Draglines of Otorohanga, two Hitachi EX120’s, one truck, one bulldozer and were lucky enough to keep Bill’s brother Maurice (Mo), one of the finest farm drainage digger drivers around.
